Destination: Camp Flat in Blue Valley, Makarora
Date: Saturday 7th June
Description: The usual walk from Blue Pools carpark (over the new bridge!) is 2-3 hours return/ 2.5 km. The track starts directly after the bridge, follows a narrow steep trail for 15 minutes, undulates above the gorge of the Blue River for 15 minutes, then opens out onto a plateau . Here we can take a trap line loop to the right for about an hour through this beautiful beech forest, meeting up again with the main track, and continuing on to Camp Flat for lunch. (Probably about 2.5 hours there altogether). Return will be about 1.5 hours via the usual route. The bush maybe dripping from the previous night's rain.
Start time / meeting point: 8.30am Saturday 7 June, usual lakeside carpark opposite McDougall Street.
Weather Forecast: Forecast is for partly cloudy 1°C/ -1°C, so warm wet weather gear advised – and sturdy boots.
