UCTC Winter Walk Saturday 7th June

  Destination:   Camp Flat in Blue Valley, Makarora   Date:   Saturday 7 th   June   Description:   The usual walk from Blue Pools carpark (over the new bridge!) is 2-3 hours return/ 2.5 km. The track starts directly after the bridge, follows a narrow steep trail for 15 minutes, undulates above the gorge of the Blue River for 15 minutes, then opens out onto a plateau . Here we can take a trap line loop to the right for about an hour through this beautiful beech forest, meeting up again with the main track, and continuing on to Camp Flat for lunch. (Probably about 2.5 hours there altogether). Return will be about 1.5 hours via the usual route. Winter Walk - Saturday 5th July - Long Gully

Date: Saturday, 5th July Destination: Long Gully (Tarras end of the Grandview Ridge Track) Meeting Point: Meet at 8:30 am at the lakefront carpark, located just south of the intersection of McDougall Street and the lakefront road. Details: We will carpool to the DOC carpark on Long Gully Road, which is accessed via Jolly Road near Tarras. The walk begins along the valley before ascending in a zigzag up to two transmitter towers (Eastern Hills), near the junction of the Sandy Point tracks. We'll stop for lunch at the towers and return via the same route. Since it's a shorter walk, there's the option of a coffee stop in Tarras on the way back. Winter walk Sunday 22 June 2025

    Destination : Young Australian Water Wheel, Bannockburn   Date: 22 June 2025   Description : A 13 km return walk starting at Quartzville at the bottom of Carricktown Road. The road passes through the Young Australian Historic Reserve, which has remnants of gold mining activity. Carricktown consists of a number of stone hut ruins.  After climbing 700m a Doc sign marks a pegged route that leads into a gully to a massive water wheel. In the 1990s nearly all the wood on the wheel was renewed. This will be our lunch spot and turnaround point. The site is exposed to the weather so bring warm clothes. The return journey will retrace our steps back to the cars.   Start time/meeting point : Meet at 8.30am at the usual carpark on the waterfront opposite McDougall Street.   Drive to Bannockburn and turn right into Schoolhouse Rd which climbs to Gully Rd.
